Construction project progressing on schedule


Construction projects in Kontiolahti Biathlon Stadium are progressing on schedule. As part of preparations for the iBU World Championships Biathlon 2015 have the expansions of main building and media centre have progressed as planned. The main building, at present of 500 square meters in size, will have its expansion of 308 square meter completed during autumn. Media Centre (now 300 square meters) will get a new 263 square meters of additional space also during the autumn. Also considering a new sauna building, the work has progressed on schedule.

The venue is preparing for upcoming major event including the addition of parking areas. Base work in areas has already been made. ELY Centre (Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment) and municipality of Kontiolahti have improved road network around the area, which means also biathlon friends’ arrival to Kontiolahti Biathlon Stadium will also be from the south and from the west even more convenient. Joensuu ring road (Highways 6 and 9) has already seen many solutions to speed up the movement. Safety point of view, there is a significant increase in the number of pedestrian and bicycle paths.

“As event organizers, we are very satisfied with improved road network. Now the actions taken will ensure that the athletes, the spectators and the representative of the media will have first-class setting also when arriving. Continuous development of the events and circumstances is important to us. We are well on track with our construction projects”, IBU World Championships Biathlon 2015 Event Manager Esa Haapala says.

The next time elite biathlon is seen in Kontiolahti already on September 7th and 8th when Kaisa Mäkäräinen and other Finnish top athletes will be competing in summer roller-ski biathlon nationals.
