Sprint to replace mixed relay in the E.ON IBU World Cup in Kontiolahti

There has been a change to E.ON IBU World Cup Kontiolahti programme. On Thursday 13th, mixed relay is replaced by sprint races. International Biathlon Union (IBU) wanted to keep the total number of individual competitions unchanged after the first E.ON IBU World Cup week in Östersund saw interruption of women’s pursuit and total cancellation of men’s pursuit due to stormy wind.

Kontiolahti organizers welcome the change with please.

“Now the importance of our World Cup is even bigger for individual athlete’s point of view. For spectators Thursday evening will offer a great opportunity to enjoy top level biathlon and enjoy the food and other services and interesting side programs offered at the stadium. Newly finished lighting will be used for the first time, which will give women’s sprint a special atmosphere”, vice event manager Tuomas Ylä-Tuuhonen says.

As for now, more than 300 tickets has sold. Tickets can be conveniently purchased on event website.

“Our E.ON IBU World Cup 2012 had a total of approximately 10 000 spectators on site. Our goal is to double it, at least.”

At the stadium, capacity is approximately 7000 spectators. Along the courses some 5000, respecively. It is also notably, that all tickets purchased prior the programme change, will be valid under the new circumstances as well.
